BRIEF
The Colours are Inside is a body of work that contemplates transformation and the coexistence of what is visible and concealed. Rooted in the metaphor of the Meiji-period kimono—whose inner linings held hidden beauty during Japan’s Westernization—the series explores how inner life, identity, and cultural memory persist beneath external adaptation.
The works include a silkscreened and embroidered kimono whose interior reveals anatomical, urban, and natural imagery; three Kakemonos created from worn kimono fabrics that bridge Japanese and Latin American symbolism; and a sculptural artist’s book that unfolds to expose the dualities of human nature—rational and emotional. Completing the series is Madonna of the Heart, a collaborative screen print that extends the dialogue between body and flora, evoking cycles of birth, decay, and regeneration. Throughout the project, the interplay between skeleton, body, and botanicals becomes a visual language for resilience, renewal, and the hidden vitality that animates both people and places.
